PE

Comberbach Primary School prides itself on promoting a healthy, active lifestyle to all our children through the wide variety of sporting opportunities we offer. Right from Nursery, all the way through to KS2, our progressive PE curriculum provides children with the opportunities and support to allow them to develop key physical skills, gain confidence and build character.

Children have two hours of curriculum PE per week. Some of this is supported by Youth Kicks Coaching which provides excellent coaching for our pupils as well as high-quality professional development for our staff.

PE lessons in KS1 guide children from initially developing fundamental movement skills in agility, balance and coordination, to mastering basic movements including jumping, throwing and catching and applying these in a range of activities. In KS2, children continue to apply a broader range of skills, further developing their flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance through a variety of sports activities.

They learn to communicate, work together and compete against each other, evaluate their own performance and also develop their understanding of how to improve in different physical activities.

In KS2, all children also attend regular swimming lessons where they are taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Our children have the opportunity to experience the quality first teaching in a whole host of fun sports activities, such as football, netball, hockey, tag rugby, cricket, gymnastics, dance, dodgeball, rounders, outdoor adventure games, athletics, tennis, badminton, boccia and many more besides.

Further to this, Comberbach Primary School offers a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to complement the two hours of PE per week provisions, such as football, netball, rounders, multi-sports and judo clubs. We also maintain excellent links to the sporting clubs in local area, such as Barnton FC, Sale Sharks RFC and the Vale Royal School Sport Partnership.

We are proud to have also been awarded the prestigious Youth Sport Trust’s School Games Gold Award as recognition of our commitment to providing high-quality sports opportunities for all our pupils.
